We all have bad days. Some of us are lucky to get one every so often, whereas it could be a bad week or month for others. Understanding what triggers these bad days can take time but here are a few tips that may help.
Take A Breath
It sounds obvious, right? But when we’re stressed or feeling anxious, our breathing becomes shallow. Taking deep breaths sends a signal to your brain to calm down and relax. Feel that air going into your lungs and close your eyes. Block out anything that’s making you feel worse, and just have a moment to focus on yourself and your body.
Sometimes it’s good to take yourself out of the situation that may be causing those feelings.
Focus On What You Do Have
When times get tough, we often think about what we do have in our life that makes us happy. It can help us to realise that there are better days ahead and that many of us have a strong network of friends and family member to lean onto.
Whether it’s going through a divorce with family solicitors involved or a death in the family, know that it will get better and that you are enough. If anyone tells you differently, they’re not worth your time or effort.
Feel Those Feelings
There is really nothing wrong with diving feet first into your feelings. Don’t ignore or force yourself to smile if you don’t want to. Don’t force yourself to do things or see others if you don’t want to. Listen to your body and really feel those feelings. When we’ve had a tough day, we can very easily bottle up our emotions and that isn’t healthy.
Look For The Lessons & Remember Who You Are
There are a lot of lessons to learn in life, and this might be just another one for the books. Whatever life throws at you, we hope it happens for a reason. When you’ve gone through a tough experience, it forces you to learn from any mistakes and grow. You shouldn’t feel defeated because failure is what makes us stronger.
It’s crucial to remember who you are as you go through life. Some of us might change the way we are to please other people, but we cannot hide who we are forever. In moments where life gets hard, we can lose our sense of self, so surround yourself with things and people that bring out the real you.
Indulge In A Little Self Care
We forget to look after ourselves sometimes, and when you have a bad day, it’s even more important to make sure we allow ourselves some time to relax and do things that make us happy. Whether that’s exercise, having a hot bubble bath or bingeing on Netflix, doing something that’s just for you can sometimes bring you back to a positive outlook on life.
When you’re in the moment, you can end up feeling like there’s really no hope but know that there is light at the end of the tunnel. As cliche as that is, there are better days ahead for you.
